In honour of World Architecture Day, we are celebrating Ali Karimi and Hamed Bukhamseen’s publication on Civil Architecture titled “Two Thousand Years of Non-Urban History” and bringing a discussion panel to discuss it.
The publication revisits the founding principles of architectural and landscape discourse in the Arabian Peninsula. It explores instances of pre-oil planning—ranging from desert kites to fish traps and water channels—upending the toolset for thinking through architecture’s relationship to its context.
